World of Lettuce (Warcraft Movie) - Show Notes

This week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast is for the gamers! Charlotte introduces Laura to the epic fantasy game World of Warcraft and its brand new film Warcraft. They each share the experience with the franchise and their opinions on game play – veteran versus newbie. They also discuss the film and its plot, relationship to the game, visual effects, and more. Charlotte shares why her level of interest in the lore of WoW effected her experience watching the film. Laura talks about certain elements of both the game and the film that created confusion for her as a new viewer. They also talk about the favorite characters in the film and their hopes for the future of the Warcraft movie franchise. Is there a clear distinction between “good” and “bad” characters in the film? Is there a future for the romance between Lothar and Garona? What kind of character did Laura create in WoW (Hint: she's not even 100% sure)!? All these subjects and more are on the table in this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

For Fun & Games, Charlotte and Laura spend some time trying to create a proper character name for Laura's WoW character. They use a magename generator to come up with ideas- listen to find out what they chose! The hosts also read some reviews of the film by listener Rich and Reddit users, and give their individual ratings out of 5 Chards!

This week's Podtail was a homemade creation: Orc Blood. To make your own Orc Blood: put 2oz melon liquor, 1 oz light rum, and 5oz fresh lime juice in a shaker. Shake to combine and strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with a Cheeto!

Phoenix and Lettuce - Show Notes

The old Lettuce crew is back together in this week's
episode of The Lettuce Podcast! Tori stops by to guest moderate one of her favorite books: Phoenix and Ashes by Mercedes Lackey. This densely layered fantasy novel has a host of interesting themes to dissect, including a distinct theme for each host. Tori shares why the complex magical systems and WWI politics in the book are her favorite themes to explore. The interpretation of the Cinderella fairy tale has the girls comparing characters from each story, which leads to Charlotte's explanation of why she didn't find Reggie to be a good representation of the Prince. Laura chats about the function of Tarot cards in the novel and how it relates to traditional Tarot study. In addition, the girls chat about the function of magic, Reggie's PTSD, magical hierarchy, and more. Does Mercedes Lackey's version of this classic fairy tale fix some of the problems with Cinderella?  What makes the magic in this book unique? Is Warwick Locke the laziest name for a wizard? All of this topics and more and discussed on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

The Fun & Games segment features the return of House Hogwarts. Tori, Charlotte, and Laura fuse this world with Harry Potter to determine in which house each of the 4 main characters belongs. They also head to the addictive quiz site Sporcle to test their knowledge on mythical creatures. The girls scored very well on the quiz, but missed one answer. Listen to hear the clues for the creature they didn't know and tweet @TheLettucePod if you know the answer!

This week's podtail was inspired by the element fire, which is the specialty of the main character Eleanor: Killian's Irish Red Ale provided by Tori.
