Star Wars: The Lettuce Jedi - Show Notes

**NOTE: This episode CONTAINS SPOILERS and these show notes may also CONTAIN SPOILERS. Please do not continue unless you have watched Star Wars:The Last Jedi.**

This week on The Lettuce Podcast, Charlotte and Laura become one with the Force while they talk about the new film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi! The hosts navigate this latest installment in the quest for galactic good with Charlotte at the helm. She and Laura talk about the wealth of badass female characters (and some males, too!), how Disney has affected the franchise, how cute Porgs are, and so much more. Charlotte applauds Carrie Fischer's performance as General Organa, but disapproves of the budding relationship between Finn and Rose. Laura expresses frustration with the films villains, but satisfaction with Luke Skywalker's story arc. Together, the girls argue about the likeability of Poe Dameron, discuss which plot points surprised them, and wonder what's next for the franchise. Does Rey have character flaws or is she a Mary Sue? Has the identity of Rey parents been truly revealed? And are Adam Driver's lips distracting?? All these very important questions and more are up for debate on this week's episode.

In the Fun & Games segment, Charlotte and Laura play the original TLP game: Kill, Marry, Pity Date. They also take a quiz to find out which character from The Last Jedi they are. and reveal the results of their weekly Twitter poll. Which of the original Star Wars trilogy films is the favorite among TLP listeners? You'll have to listen to find out!

This week's podtail was the fun and customizable Lightsaber cocktail. Laura used melon liquer to make a green lightsaber. You can use grenadine for a red lightsaber and blue curacao for a blue lightsaber. Get the recipe here.

The Girl Who Played With Ficus

Laura and Charlotte return to the Millennium series in this week's new episode of The Lettuce Podcast. They're talking about the second in Steig Larsson's original trilogy, The Girl Who Played With Fire. The conversation covers the book's rich and complicated cast of characters, the role of women in Sweden's society, Stieg Larsson's writing style, and more. Laura draws some similarities between main character Lisbeth Salander and the book's foremost villain, Zala. Charlotte shares appreciation for the novel's primary focus on Lisbeth as opposed to the prior book's focus on Mikael Blomkvist. Together the girls outline the problematic police force in Stockholm, wonder about Erika Berger's unique marriage, and make predictions about what a true romantic relationship between Lisbeth and Mikael would look like. Can Lisbeth come out of a triple murder accusation unscathed? Will Mikael be able to rekindle his friendship with Listbeth? And what the hell does a professional boxed have to do with this crime thriller story? All these questions and more are discussed on this week's new episode!

After a long and spirited conversation about The Girl Who Played With Fire's long list of complex characters, Laura and Charlotte only had time for one game in the Fun & Games segment. They used a name generator to find out what their Swedish names would be!

This week's podtails were inspired by events in the book! Charlotte sipped on wine just like Mikael at his sister's birthday party. Laura enjoyed a fruity cocktail called Tropical Temptation in honor of Lisbeth's vacation (and love affair!) in the Caribbean.
