The Dark Kale Rises - Show Notes

This week on The Lettuce Podcast, Laura and Charlotte return to Gotham for the final chapter in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy: The Dark Knight Rises. They welcome guest Cory into the mix to help them review the film and finish the series. Together they discuss characters old and new, how the film compares to its prequels, whether the end of TDK series was satisfying, and more. Laura wonders if double-crossing is the al Ghul family trait. Charlotte shares her experience watching the film for the first time. Cory uses his knowledge of The Dark Knight comic books to compare some movie elements to the source material. All three laud the electric performance of Anne Hatheway as Catwoman, discuss how Bane's villainous presence gets short-handed, and debate Alfred's actions in the film. Is Christian Bale's final performance as Batman as powerful as his previous two? Was John Blake relatable or boring? And did this movie really need to be nearly 3 hours long? All these topics and more are discussed on this week's episode.

Laura, Charlotte, and Cory had an extra hilarious Fun and Games segment for this episode. Listen to find out why Cory had a laughing fit during a round of Sorting Hat. They also get creative in a game called Create A Bat Gadget, where each person comes up with their own special bat gadget to ask Lucious Fox to make. What bat gadget would you have made?

For various reasons, the hosts and Cory chose not to indulge in a Podtail for this episode. BUT! Don't worry! The Lettuce Podast always has you covered for your own themed podtail adventures. Check out this Buzzfeed article with 7 Cocktails for Batman Lovers. Still looking for guidance? Why not try a Boy Wonder in honor of John Blake's real name (Robin!).

The Marvelous Moss-es Maisel

The Lettuce Podcast is starting out the new year with Amazon Prime's Original series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Charlotte and Laura are eager to chat about the newest Amy Sherman-Palladino show and its cast of characters. They also talk about the role of stand-up comedy, the 1950's setting, and more. Charlotte appreciates the many cultural and referential Jewish elements, and lauds the performance of Alex Borstein as Susie. Laura notes the realism of the stand-up comedy process, and shares her joy in the wacky character of Imogene. Both hosts share their love of the main character, Miriam, wonder about the fate of Miriam's relationship with Joel, and look forward to where the show can go after its first season. Can Miriam and Joel repair their broken marriage? Will Susie be able to fulfill her goal to become a comedy manager while also finding her sensitive side? And who's parents are more stereotypically Jewish – Miriam's or Joel's? All these pressing topics and more are discussed on this week's all new episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

The Fun & Games segment was inspired by elements of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Taking a cue from Rose Weissman (Miriam's mother), Charlotte and Laura had their tea leaves read. They also had a round of their most improvisational game – Alphabet Sentence!

Due to illness and timing, the girls took a bit of a break from podtails this week. But! If you'd like to sip along to our episode or the show, we'd suggest wine, champagne, or a fun 50's era cocktail like a Sidecar, Tom Collins, or Pink Squirrel! Learn how to make them all by clicking here!
