The Garden with the Dragon Tatsoi - Show Notes

Happy New Year from The Lettuce Podcast! Laura and Charlotte start the year off with one of their favorite books The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson. They're excited to start this crime thriller series and chat about its cast of vivid characters, themes of social injustice, and commentary about society's treatment of women. Laura talks about the loveable playboy Mikael Blomkvist and wonders if his actions with women are respectful or problematic. Charlotte shares why she liked Erika Berger's put-together no-nonsense attitude. Both girls talk about their love of the strong, but troubled Lisbeth Salander, why the entire Vanger family is a mess, and the ways in which Salander and Berger are complementary characters. They also take the opportunity to compare the book with its US film adaptation, covering the changes made in both good and bad ways. Was the Vanger family's choice to cover up their ugly past a savvy business move or a rich family's power play? Does the “Locked Room Mystery” set-up work in book form? And is there any sympathy at all for the slimeball Nils Bjurman? (Spoiler Alert: NO!). All these subjects and more are discussed on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

In the Fun & Games segment, the girls end 2016 and welcome the new year with two of their tried and true favorite games: Madlibs and Kill, Marry, Pity Date.

For this episode, Laura enjoyed a podtail called the Swedish Polar Bear. A perfect beverage to accompany winter on the cold Hedeby Island!

Gilmore Gourds: A Yam in the Lettuce - Show Notes

This week on The Lettuce Podcast, Charlotte and Laura cover the new Netflix mini-series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The girls are excited to revisit the characters of one of their favorite television series. They discuss many of the characters' new story-lines, whether or not the new episodes feel like classic Gilmore Girls, and the possibility of more episodes. Charlotte explains her feelings about Lorelai's new put-together life with Luke and how she empathizes for Lorelai during Richard's funeral. Laura chats about Rory as a difficult, but lovable character and her frustration with Logan. The girls also pick their most and least favorite of the four episodes and discuss those famous final four words. Is Rory bound for a new career after struggling with journalism? Has Luke been dumbed down? And why was Lane so underused in the revival episodes? All these subjects and more are discussed on this super-sized episode of The Lettuce Podcast! SPOILER WARNING: the final four words are said and discussed at length during this episode and repeated at the very ending of the episode. If you have not watched Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and do not want to know what the final four words are, we recommend watching the Netflix series before listening.

For the Fun & Games segment, Charlotte and Laura both reveal what they think their final four words for their lives would be. They also compete head-to-head in a Gilmore Girls trivia quiz: How Well Do You Know Your Gilmore Girls?

For this episode's podtails, Charlotte sipped on a Lorelai-approved cup of coffee. Laura's podtail was inspired by Lorelai's Wild hike where she enjoyed boxed wine with fellow hikers.

Fantastic Beets and Where to Find Thyme - Show Notes

This week on The Lettuce Podcast, the hosts return to where it all began: the wizarding world of Harry Potter! Charlotte and Laura gab about a new Hufflepuff hero in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. They discuss their love of the delightfully quirky Newt Scamander, the scary and frustrating Second Salem movement, and which of the fantastic beasts they liked the most. Charlotte wonders how well the film fits into the Harry Potter world we know and if there's excitement for future movies. Laura examines the difference between US and UK magical law enforcement. Both girls gush about the budding romance between Jacob and Queenie, talk about the role of Dumbledore in the future, and their new wizarding heroine Tina. How does no-maj Jacob help introduce movie-goers to a world they already know? How are Tina and Queenie so different yet equally loveable? And is Newt's mating dance the absolute best scene in the film? All these questions and more are up for debate in this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

Charlotte and Laura give their rating of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and then move to their favorite segment: Fun & Games! The hosts feel it necessary to play a round of Kill, Marry, Pity Date – their favorite game and go-to for all Harry Potter topics. The girls also take a quiz to determine if they are more Tina or Queenie.

For this episodes Podtails, Charlotte enjoyed a cup of tea (like a good Brit!) and Laura sipped on a glass of Champagne aka Giggle Water.
