From Raddish with Lettuce

Laura and Charlotte are going on another mission with 007! They're covering Sean Connery's second film as the classic spy: From Russia With Love. They discuss Connery's Bond, his disappointing Bond girl, how well the film ages, and more. Laura explains why she thinks Tatiana Romanova is the worst Bond girl yet, and why she thinks the execution of Blofeld as a villain worked. Charlotte struggles with enjoying Bond's dated treatment of women, but appreciates the film's setup of many trademark Bond tropes. Together the girls highlight which gadgets they liked the most, which action scenes were the most thrilling, and which plot points slowed the film down. Does From Russia With Love set up this long franchise's most notable elements? Does the film's old-style pacing affect its storytelling abilities? And is helicopter tag the most James Bond thing to ever happen?

For Fun & Games, Laura and Charlotte decide to mix fandoms by playing a round of Sorting Hat. Is James a Gryffindor or a Slytherin? Comment to let us know what you think? They also take a Brainfall quiz to find out Which Type of Martini they are.

The Lettuce Daylights - Show Nots

What do a Russian defector, opium, diamonds, and a cello have in common? The latest episode of The Lettuce Podcast! Laura and Charlotte go on another mission with 007. This time, they're teaming up with Timothy Dalton in his debut as James Bond, The Living Daylights. The girls try to make sense of the meandering plot, attempt to figure out who the real bad guy is, and lament the damage done to a million dollar musical instrument. Laura is less than thrilled with the MI6 representation in the film, but enjoys henchman Necros. Charlotte wishes Kara Milovy had more dimension, and enjoys the sex appeal of Rosika Miklos. Together the hosts applaud Timothy Dalton's performance as Bond, discuss a-ha's “The Living Daylights” intro song, share their favorite action sequences, and more! Why is Brad Whittaker trading arms money for opium and diamonds? Where can one buy a ghetto blaster? And what in Bond's name is this movie about? All these questions and more are answered (okay, maybe not) in this week's new episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

For Fun & Games, Laura and Charlotte get creative. First, they each describe what gadgets and functions their 007 spy car would have. They also play of a round of Dream Casting where they determine who should be the next 007, Bond Girl, villain, and henchman. Who do you should play James Bond after Daniel Craig is done? Tell us in a comment!

Looking to sip on something in honor of The Living Daylights? As always, a classic Martini (shaken, not stirred!) will get anyone in the 007 mood. If you're looking for something a little less strong, pop some bubbly and pour yourself a glass!

Goldenlettuce (James Bond) - Show Notes

The Lettuce Podcast is back on a mission with 007 himself, James Bond. On this week's episode, Laura and Charlotte chat about Pierce Brosnan's first film as the famous British spy, Goldeneye. They chat about all things Bond including the modernization of the franchise, wacky gadgets, ridiculous Bond Girl names, and more. Laura reveals why she thinks Brosnan has the look of Bond, but misses the mark on personality. Charlotte expresses appreciation for the intelligent and capable Bond Girl, Natalya. Together the girls discuss Tina Turner's performance of “Goldeneye”, the amazing Judi Dench's near 20 year run as M, and the movie's most iconic action sequence (Psst- it involves a TANK!). Does 1995's James Bond revival film hold up against the current 007 films? Which Goldeneye Bond gadgets inadvertently predicted the future of technology? And is Xenia Onatopp a satisfying henchwoman or just a sexy weirdo?

For the Fun & Games segment, Laura challenges Charlotte to a game of “Is This A Bond Girl?” where she is given a list of names and has to determine which are real characters from the 007 film franchise. Play along and tell us your results in the comments! The girls also dust off one of their favorite TLP games, Alphabet Sentence, which produces strange results. All this fun and more on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

This week's podtail was the only appropriate drink for James Bond: a martini!

The Lettuce Who Loved Me (James Bond) - Show Notes

England needs us, Lettuce Heads. It's time to zip up our ski suits and head out on another mission with 007! This week on The Lettuce Podcast, Laura introduces her favorite James Bond film to Charlotte - The Spy Who Loved Me. The chat about all their favorite and unfavorite James Bond tropes including gadgets, action sequences, characters, and more. Laura touches on all the elements that make this movie special to her including the famous ski sequence and her favorite henchman Jaws. Charlotte comments on the action sequences noting some she liked and some she didn't like as much. The hosts highlight the film's various characters including Roger Moore's portrayal of Bond, stoic Bond Girl Anya, and the mysterious Karl Stromberg. They also chat about Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" as one of their favorite opening themes, but note the sparse music throughout the rest of the film. Why is Karl Stromberg so obsessed with the ocean? Is James actually a good spy or just good at getting out of a pickle? And is Jaws the slowest moving person in history? All this and more on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

The Spy Who Loved Me gets high marks in the rating section, but you'll have to listen to find out how high. For the Fun & Games segment, Laura and Charlotte play one of their favorite games to play for a 007 mission: Madlibs! They also use a name generator to determine their James Bond Villain names and secret lairs.

When on a mission with 007, there is no better Podtail than a martini! This drink is extremely versatile and can be made with a variety of ingredients and preparation methods. This episode, Laura and Charlotte enjoyed gin martinis with a twist!

SPECTRE (SPinach Escarole Cabbage Tatsoi Radicchio Endive) - Show Notes

The Lettuce Podcast is going rogue for a mission with 007. Laura moderates this episode about the latest installment in the James Bond movie franchise: Spectre. She, Tori, and Charlotte also welcome their first guest, Dan, to the podcast. They sit down to chat about MI6, gadgets, villains, Bond Girls, and more. Dan talks about his expectations and reservations regarding Spectre, and the relationship of Spectre to the three other Craig-era Bond films. Laura rejoices at the return of Blofeld and talks about how much of a pleasure it was to watch this character. Tori talks about the struggles of understanding this movie without the basis of the preceding three films. Charlotte draws a comparison between Q's gadget lair and Batman's Bat Cave. Is Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall" the worst Bond theme in history? How much time did Blofeld have to create plans to thwart Bond? Should Mr. Hinx have been a more complex character? All this and more on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

Laura, Tori, Charlotte, and Dan each give a rating out of 5 Chards to Spectre. The average rating was 3.75 Chards. Listen to find out who rated it high and who rated it low. The Fun & Games segments has the hosts and their guest taking a BBCAmerica Quiz called Which James Bond Are You? This personality quiz determined which James Bond from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig best fit each Lettuce Head. The second game brought the return of Madlibs! Laura asked Charlotte, Tori, and Dan to fill in words to two James Bond related paragraphs. The end result was full of laughter!

Our Podtail was provided by Dan (what a great guest!): americanos! Fans of the movie franchise will know that martinis are the favorite drink of the film character, but did you know the book character favored the americano? If you'd like to drink like a 007, you can find a recipe for americanos here. Tori was inspired by the imagery in the opening credits sequence and made Octo-cookies. She used a basic spritz/cookie press recipe for the dough and some creativity to form the octopus shapes.

Dr. Lettuce: A Mission with 007! - Show Notes

The Lettuce Podcast is on a trip to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of Strangways and his girl! Laura, Tori, and Charlotte sit underneath the mango tree and discuss the first James Bond film, Dr. No, in episode 4. Join in the fun as they critically examine the film and exploit its most confusing plot points. Discussion topics include: the James Bond franchise and how it affected the movie industry, the use of music throughout the film, and the portrayal of women. The girls also investigate several questions raised by the film. Is a tarantula an effective murder weapon? How does one remove radiation from the body? What exactly is Dr. No's motivation? Oh yeah, and there's a dragon!

Laura puts Tori and Charlotte to the test as they compete to win a game called Who Said It: Donald Trump or a James Bond Villain? Then they each create their own Bond Girl name using a formula involving actress' names and fruits. You can find the formula and create your own Bond Girl name here. If you'd like to create a truly dirty Bond Girl name, try here. Leave a comment and lettuce know what you got!

This episode's podsnacks were fancy appetizers that one might receive at a high-roller casino or restaurant. Charlotte provided a selection of olives, pesto & mozzarella pastries, and herbed cheese with crackers. The podtails were martinis (shaken, not stirred by Laura) with a choice of olives or a twist for garnish. For those who don't know, Bond asks for a medium dry vodka martini with a twist. Though this is his signature martini, it is actually improper! True vodka martinis are garnished with olives. Shaking a martini, as opposed to stirring, causes "bruising" in the drink so that the drink appears cloudy instead of its classic clear. The more you know!

The next episode of The Lettuce Podcast will be a return to the Harry Potter series. Tori will moderate with Charlotte and Laura in tow as The Lettuce Podcast explores Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban!
