The Office of Parks & Recreation

The Lettuce Podcast is all about mockumentaries on this week's new episode. Charlotte & Laura discuss the first seasons of two of the most popular sitcoms of the 2000s: The Office & Parks and Recreation. They chat about comedy, laying the groundwork for each series, the successes and missteps, and more. Charlotte shares which beloved Parks & Rec character she can't stand, and why she loves the Jim/Pam relationship. Laura discusses why the viewer has to work to like Michael Scott, and why Ann is the perfect compliment to Leslie. Together the girls chat about whether the short first seasons of these two shows lay proper groundwork, which non-major characters are their favorites (and unfavorites), and how the comedy measures up. Which boss is more relatable: Michael Scott or Leslie Knope? Does Mark Brandanawicz have the most significant character development in Parks and Rec S1? And is Jim Halpert a secret bully? All these topics and more are discussed on this week's episode!

For the Fun & Games segment, Charlotte and Laura had no choice but to inaugurate these new topics with the original TLP game: Kill, Marry, Pity Date. Play along and share your picks in the comments!

For this episode's podtail, Laura suggests you channel your inner Ron Swanson and pour yourself a finger of Lagavulin. Enjoy neat or with a cube of ice. Not for the faint of heart!

Marvel's cabbAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (S1)

Charlotte and Laura have reached the first intimidating stop on their journey through the MCU: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. They discuss the adventures of Phil Coulson and his ragtag crew, their concerns about the series and how they changed upon viewing, how the TV series furthers the overall story arc, and more. Charlotte shares her struggle with connecting to the cold and distant Melinda May, while Laura finds her to be a badass. Laura compares the villain, John Garrett to a character from The Office, and Charlotte explains why he's good at being a bad guy. Together they champion the show's science twin duo FitzSimmons, call out repetitive plot devices, muddle through the more mundane MCU goings-on, and share some hopes for the future storylines of the show. Was Agent Phil Coulson a ladies man in his past? Does the show's Law and Order type procedural style help connect the dots between bigger MCU events? And do Charlotte and Laura find any affection for this show? You'll have to listen to find out!

For the Fun & Games segment, the girls find out their Agent Names and play a round of 1, 2, 3, S/He's Yours! Play along with Charlotte and Laura during the episode and share your agent name or your soul mate pick in the comments of this post!

Looking for something to sip on while listening to this episode or watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Laura suggests you drink along with agents Melinda May and Grant Ward by having a couple fingers of whiskey. Enjoy it neat like the agents do, or add a rock like Laura does!

A Feast For Cabbage - Show Notes

On this week's supersized episode of The Lettuce Podcast, Charlotte and Laura chat about A Feast for Crows, the 4th novel in George R. R. Martin's epic A Song of Ice and Fire series. They also discuss seasons 4 and 5 of HBO's Game of Thrones and compare to the source material. This journey back to Westeros finds the girls chatting about some new regions (Dorne and the Iron Isles), Cersei's grip on reality, and Samwell's romantic life. Charlotte enjoys watching Sansa get more of a backbone in the books, but dislikes her storyline in the TV series. Laura find Dorne to be a mysterious and interesting setting, and the Iron Isles to be a bore. Together the girls wonder about the fate of Brienne, argue about the moral compass of Tywin Lannister, and question the motives of Littlefinger. Was the ommission of beloved characters such as Daenarys and Tyrion a mistake? Does A Feast for Crows offer a satisfying plot? And will Jaime newfound independence from Cersei bring him success? All this and more is discussed on this week's episode!

For the girls' favorite section, Fun & Games, they begin by taking a quiz to determine their GoT soul mates. They also take turns selecting favorite characters and predicting where they think the ASOIF series will take them. Play along and leave your GoT soulmates and predictions in the comments!

Laura and Charlotte are excited to wrap up another series on this week's episode: Mad Men! They join the gang on Madison Avenue one last time to discuss Season 7 and review the series as a whole. Laura notes how the ending to Don's story is ambiguous and layered, while lauding Joan's arc from gold-digging secretary to independent business woman. Charlotte shares her happiness with Pete finally getting his life together, and Peggy success with both business and romance (STAN, FTW!). Together the girls discuss the portrayal of the moon landing, Sally's relationship with her parents, and the role of the Vietnam War in the final episodes of the series.

Did Don really manipulate Megan out of her career? What is the true meaning behind the final shot of the legendary "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke" campaign? And will we ever be able to get the image of Ginsberg's severed nipple out of our heads?? All these subjects and more are discussed on the final Mad Men episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

The Marvelous Moss-es Maisel

The Lettuce Podcast is starting out the new year with Amazon Prime's Original series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Charlotte and Laura are eager to chat about the newest Amy Sherman-Palladino show and its cast of characters. They also talk about the role of stand-up comedy, the 1950's setting, and more. Charlotte appreciates the many cultural and referential Jewish elements, and lauds the performance of Alex Borstein as Susie. Laura notes the realism of the stand-up comedy process, and shares her joy in the wacky character of Imogene. Both hosts share their love of the main character, Miriam, wonder about the fate of Miriam's relationship with Joel, and look forward to where the show can go after its first season. Can Miriam and Joel repair their broken marriage? Will Susie be able to fulfill her goal to become a comedy manager while also finding her sensitive side? And who's parents are more stereotypically Jewish – Miriam's or Joel's? All these pressing topics and more are discussed on this week's all new episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

The Fun & Games segment was inspired by elements of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Taking a cue from Rose Weissman (Miriam's mother), Charlotte and Laura had their tea leaves read. They also had a round of their most improvisational game – Alphabet Sentence!
