Gone with the Lettuce - Show Notes

The Lettuce Podcast is heading down to the Old South to examine the epic novel and movie Gone With The Wind. Charlotte moderates the episode and guides Laura through a discussion about characters, historical context, and book/movie comparisons.  They discuss the actions of Scarlet O'Hara as she ages through the Civil War and Reconstruction Era. Laura wonders if Rhett could have confessed his true feelings for Scarlet without appearing soft. Charlotte expresses frustration with Ashley Wilkes' un-gentlemanly actions. Both hosts wish they could have gotten to see more of Ellen O'Hara's formidable character. Charlotte and Laura then discuss the treatment of both women and salves/African-Americans in the novel. They also reflect on the historical accuracy of the story and examine the reasons for the popularity of the Gone With The Wind. Does Scarlet O'Hara's character actually display significant personal growth? What happened to Scarlet's other kids in the movie adaptation? Exactly how many tomorrows does Scarlet have before she actually has to start thinking about life?

The Fun & Games segment starts off with a round of Kill, Marry, Pity Date - Gone With the Wind style. Then, after a long wait, Madlibs return! Laura challenges Charlotte to fill in the words to 8 great quotes from Gone With The Wind and hilarity ensues!

This episode's podtail was a classic Southern drink: a Mint Julep! Though this drink is more closely associated with Kentucky and the Kentucky Derby, it was mentioned in the beginning of the novel that the men were drinking mint juleps during the barbeque.

Jessica Lettuce - Show Notes

Smile! A.K.A. The Lettuce Podcast tackles the dark world of the Netflix hit series Jessica Jones in this week's episode. Charlotte moderates with co-host Laura and they welcome an old friend back to the show: Tori! The girls chat about characters, how Jessica Jones fits into the Marvel Universe, the female-forward plot, and the advantages to producing the show as a Netflix series. Tori's return to the show means the return of the "Source Ma-Tori-al" segment where she shares the similarities and difference between the series and the comic books. Charlotte explains why the characters Trish Walker and Will Simpson didn't work for her. Laura draws a comparison between Kilgrave's abilities and some of the monsters from Doctor Who. Does Jessica Jones portray rape survivors in a more realistic way than other TV shows and movies? Do Malcolm and Jessica need each other? Does anyone care at all about Jeri's personal life? All these questions and more are covered on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

The Discussion Segment closes with Charlotte, Laura, and Tori rating S1 of Jessica Jones out of 5 Chards with an average rating of ~4 Chards. The Fun & Games segment introduces a new game for TLP: Haiku! The girls use their creativity to each write a haiku about Jessica Jones. Also, they take a Buzzfeed Quiz to find out which character they should team up with. Take the quiz and share your results in the comments section of this post.

When you're drinking to Jessica Jones there is only one Podtail to have: Bourbon! This week's Podtail ended up being a dual effort. Laura and Tori enjoyed Wild Turkey 101 in the Maryland Branch of TLP while Charlotte drank a chaser of Pepsi.
