The Dark Kelp - Show Notes

Why so serious? Because this week on The Lettuce Podcast, Laura and Charlotte welcome guest Cory (of the Three Angry Nerds Podcast) to discuss Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. And there's no hiding it- they ALL love this movie! They talk about the impact this film had on the comic book movie industry, why it's never been matched despite the rise of incredible comic book films, and (of course) Heath Ledger's amazing performance as The Joker. Laura explains she feels why the moral quandaries presented in the film help to make the viewer more engaged in the story. Charlotte compares the performances of Katie Holmes' and Maggie Gyllenhaal's Rachel Dawes character, explaining why she appreciates both and who she ultimately enjoys more. Cory brings a new energy into the show with his knowledge of the comic book series to help the girls get a grasp on how this film relates, while also sharing an infectious excitement for the film. All three engage in a truly fun and exciting love-fest over this wonderful film- you won't want to skip this episode! Is Heath Ledger's the best on-screen portrayal of The Joker? Do we even need to put that question up for debate? Are you going to listen to our comments on it anyway? All these fun topics and more are discussed on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

Laura, Charlotte, and Cory had an extra fun Fun & Games segment, which they began by finding their Superhero Names. All three agreed that the quiz had a strange method with 100% awesome results! They closed our the segment with a Lettuce Podcast favorite: Madlibs. For this round, Laura used the plot summary on the back of The Dark Knight DVD which produced even more hilarious results than usual.

The Lettuceheads and guest Cory enjoyed 3 podtails this week: A Bruce Wayne approved glass of red wine for Charlotte, a purple-and-green cocktail called The Joker (make your own!) for Laura, and an appropraitely named cocktail called The Dark Knight (make your own!) for Cory.

Rogue Onion - Show Notes

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away The Lettuce Podcast covered Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in this week's episode! Charlotte hosts this topic with Laura in tow as they chat about characters old and new, how this installment fits into the Star Wars universe, and the film's fantastic music. Charlotte expresses her appreciation for the flawed, but kickass Jyn Erso, stating that a herione with some faults made for a more interesting experience. Laura confesses that her casual Star Wars fandom impeded her ability to follow the movie, but didn't affect her overall enjoyment. Both hosts agree that K-2SO was a favorite character. They also chat about the cinematic choices that let the viewers know Rogue One is a part of the Star Wars universe, but not in the narrative we know. Are we as an audience happy with the answers to our questions about the Death Star? Was there romantic tension between Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor? And what exactly was the nature of the relationship between Chirrut Imwe and Base Malbus? All this topics and more are discussed on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

For Fun & Games, Charlotte and Laura find out How Strong the Force is within them, with wholly unexpected results. They also have fun with The Star Wars Name Generator where the not only determine their names in the Star Wars universe, but also their occupations!

This episode's podtail was the punny Jyn & Juice! You can make your own by mixing pineapple chunks and orange juice in a food processor then adding 2 oz of gin. Drink up, Lettuce Heads!

The Garden with the Dragon Tatsoi - Show Notes

Happy New Year from The Lettuce Podcast! Laura and Charlotte start the year off with one of their favorite books The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson. They're excited to start this crime thriller series and chat about its cast of vivid characters, themes of social injustice, and commentary about society's treatment of women. Laura talks about the loveable playboy Mikael Blomkvist and wonders if his actions with women are respectful or problematic. Charlotte shares why she liked Erika Berger's put-together no-nonsense attitude. Both girls talk about their love of the strong, but troubled Lisbeth Salander, why the entire Vanger family is a mess, and the ways in which Salander and Berger are complementary characters. They also take the opportunity to compare the book with its US film adaptation, covering the changes made in both good and bad ways. Was the Vanger family's choice to cover up their ugly past a savvy business move or a rich family's power play? Does the “Locked Room Mystery” set-up work in book form? And is there any sympathy at all for the slimeball Nils Bjurman? (Spoiler Alert: NO!). All these subjects and more are discussed on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

In the Fun & Games segment, the girls end 2016 and welcome the new year with two of their tried and true favorite games: Madlibs and Kill, Marry, Pity Date.

For this episode, Laura enjoyed a podtail called the Swedish Polar Bear. A perfect beverage to accompany winter on the cold Hedeby Island!
