The Lettuce Who Loved Me (James Bond) - Show Notes

England needs us, Lettuce Heads. It's time to zip up our ski suits and head out on another mission with 007! This week on The Lettuce Podcast, Laura introduces her favorite James Bond film to Charlotte - The Spy Who Loved Me. The chat about all their favorite and unfavorite James Bond tropes including gadgets, action sequences, characters, and more. Laura touches on all the elements that make this movie special to her including the famous ski sequence and her favorite henchman Jaws. Charlotte comments on the action sequences noting some she liked and some she didn't like as much. The hosts highlight the film's various characters including Roger Moore's portrayal of Bond, stoic Bond Girl Anya, and the mysterious Karl Stromberg. They also chat about Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" as one of their favorite opening themes, but note the sparse music throughout the rest of the film. Why is Karl Stromberg so obsessed with the ocean? Is James actually a good spy or just good at getting out of a pickle? And is Jaws the slowest moving person in history? All this and more on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

The Spy Who Loved Me gets high marks in the rating section, but you'll have to listen to find out how high. For the Fun & Games segment, Laura and Charlotte play one of their favorite games to play for a 007 mission: Madlibs! They also use a name generator to determine their James Bond Villain names and secret lairs.

When on a mission with 007, there is no better Podtail than a martini! This drink is extremely versatile and can be made with a variety of ingredients and preparation methods. This episode, Laura and Charlotte enjoyed gin martinis with a twist!

Lettuce Assume the Position (Secretary) - Show Notes

It's time to correct some bad behavior on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast. Charlotte and Laura discuss the film Secretary and all of the elements of this sexy-strange film. In addition to character study, the hosts chat about the portrayal of the BDSM community in the film, what makes the film controversial, and compare Secretary to its modern sibling 50 Shades of Grey. Charlotte expresses her sadness over the tragic character Peter and the sad treatment he receives from Lee. Laura confesses her thoughts about the film's connections between BDSM and mental illness. The hosts both inspect the controversial subject matter and wonder if the film would have been considered scandalous in current times. They also praise the acting performances of Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Spader. What makes Secretary both a good and bad movie? Where exactly did Lee and Peter go on their first date? And shouldn't workplace romances be avoided at all costs? All these questions and more are answered on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

The ratings segment delivers the lowest rating for a topic in TLP history – listen to find out the fate of Secretary. For Fun & Games, Charlotte and Laura discover their potential as secretaries by taking a quiz from the 1950's. They also play the dirtiest game of Alphabet Sentence to date!

This week's podtail was a glass of red wine - inspired by Lee and Peter's date at the laundromat-arcade-restaurant.

Meditations in an Empress Tree (Mad Men S2)

This week on The Lettuce Podcast, Laura and Charlotte return to Madison Avenue to review Season 2 of Mad Men. They discuss character arcs, character relationships, and compare culture in the 1960's to today. Laura talks about why she enjoyed Peggy's struggle with faith and her family more than Peggy's struggles at work. Charlotte uses the Wildcard Character slot to talk about one of her favorites: Sal Romano. They also put the character spotlight on Joan, Pete, Betty, and more. While discussing culture differences they break down the now iconic picnic scene, discuss Don's flippant and varied treatment of women, and Paul Kinsey's girlfriend. Is this season a turning point for Joan? Does Bobbie Barrett show the audience what it would be like for Don to date himself? Is Duck Philips literally the worst person on the planet because he abandons his dog? All these topics and more are on the table!

During the Fun & Games segment, Laura couldn't resist the opportunity for Mad Men Madlibs. She uses a plot summary of “The Mountain King” (S2, Ep12) as the inspiration for this silly word game. The hosts also take a quiz to determine who their ideal Mad Men hook up should be. Take the quiz and leave your results in the comment section.

For this week's Podtails, Charlotte was inspired by the Heineken story-line and enjoyed a beer. Laura was inspired by Sally Draper's bar-tending skills and sipped on a Tom Collins.
