The Perks of Being a Cauliflower - Show Notes

This week on The Lettuce Podcast, Laura and Charlotte explore life as a shy teenager in Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower. They chat about the book's unique narrative style, Charlie and his friends, mental illness, and more. They also compare the book to its movie component and the coming-of-age themes to their own coming-of-age experiences. Laura shares how she found the book in her teenage years and how it affected her life. She also shares why she is frustrated with the movie adaptation, but still has affection for the film. Charlotte chats about her struggles with Sam and her fondness for Patrick. She also shares how reading the novel changed her experience after previously viewing the film. Both hosts bond over their love of Charlie's English teacher Bill and are surprised to find out their have a shared theory about Aunt Helen. Why was the nature of Charlie's mental illness changed from book to movie? Did Charlie need a more supportive family? And aren't we all just hoping to have a teacher like Bill?

The Fun & Games section was inspired by a classic high school game – MASH! Laura and Charlotte both endured the long, but rewarding process of choosing spouses, jobs, cars, and more. After a careful elimination process, the hosts were able to find out what their 100% guaranteed futures would be! Listen to find out which girl got to marry Jason Momoa!

This week's podtail was a double drink! Charlotte was inspired by Charlie's dislike of beer and enjoyed a local brew - Big Boss Brewery's Harvest Time. Laura was inspired by Charlie's dates with Mary Elizabeth and added some brandy to a mug of Wassel (a favorite fall drink similar to mulled cider)!
