A Sassafras of Swords - Show Notes

Charlotte and Laura head back to Westeros to chat about A Storm of Swords, the third book in George R.R. Martin's epic A Song of Ice and Fire series. They chat about the state of the major houses, Westeros' many kings, surprising plot points, and so much more. Charlotte talks about the incredible growth in Samwell Tarly's character, and how she feels about Sansa Stark's sad life. Laura gets frustrated with Arya and Bran, but loves Stannis' choice to aide in the fight against the White Walkers. They also discuss a controversial scene between Cercei and Jaime, whether or not the book should have featured Deanerys more, and take time to compare the book to Season 3 of HBO's Game of Thrones. Of the many deaths of major characters, which one was the most surprising? Does Tyrion's expectation of appreciation for his actions cause his demise? And does Tywin Lannister really shit gold? All of these subjects and many more are discussed in this week's supersized episode of The Lettuce Podcast!

For the Fun & Games segment, the girls bolster some family pride by creating their own banners, sigils, and house words. Then Charlotte challenges Laura to a game of Predictions, where she asks questions about what will happen next in the series.

Inspired by the heightened activity of the Others, Laura mixed up a White Walker to sip on as her podtail. Learn how to make your own here!

The Handmaid's Tater - Show Notes

Laura and Charlotte are checking out the militaristic dystopian society known as Gilead in this week's episode about the Hulu Original The Handmaid's Tale. They discuss this Emmy Award winning drama, its relationship to the current political climate, and whether the events in the series could happen today. Laura wonders about the structural roles of women and why none of Gilead's wives are fertile. Charlotte has a surprising favorite character, whose psychological trauma made the show more real. The girls also discuss the entrancing characters played by Elisabeth Moss (Offred) and Alexis Bledel (Ofglen), whether Serena Joy is guilty of her own misery, and much more. What happens to June at the end of the series? What's Nick's true role in the story? And what will happen in Season 2? All of these questions and more are discussed on this week's episode of The Lettuce Podcast.

For the Fun & Games segment, Laura and Charlotte play a TLP Classic: Alphabet sentence! They also do a variation on a character quiz to find out what role they would have in Gilead.

Inspired by Gilead's old-fashioned values, Charlotte enjoyed a cream soda as her podtail. Laura crafted a homemade cocktail called The Handmaid. Combine 2oz Canadian whiskey and 1 oz. tripel sec into a rocks glass. Fill with cherry juice. Add a splash of club soda for some bubbles!
